Sustainability Policy
This policy applies to all Queensway employees involved in the operations of Point A Hotels.
Queensway Limited (the parent company) and Point A Hotels recognise that our activities – and those of our suppliers – have a significant impact on the environment. We take responsibility for reducing this impact and for contributing positively to the communities where we operate. Our goal is to go beyond compliance by embedding sustainability into our business strategy.
The built environment accounts for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions annually, while travel and tourism contribute around 7%. As part of these sectors, we share a responsibility to reduce emissions and help limit the effects of global warming.
We are committed to continual improvement and to working collaboratively with our stakeholders to drive meaningful change across our value chain.
As part of this policy we will:
- Comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Continue to improve our environmental performance over time.
- Aim to reduce our environmental impacts wherever feasible.
- Consider environmental factors in business decisions.
- Increase employee awareness and training.
- Review and update this policy as needed.
Property Development and Refurbishment
Our most significant environmental impacts are from the construction and refurbishment of our sites. We aim to grow and maintain our portfolio responsibly, with an emphasis on reducing environmental impacts.
Priority areas:
Responsible development: We will prioritise the refurbishment of existing buildings over new developments wherever appropriate, extending the lifecycle of our properties.
Sustainable Certification: All developments will aim to achieve a recognised certification such as BREEAM.
Energy and water: Where feasible, we will explore the installation of solar panels and water-efficient systems to help lower resource use.
Waste and recycling: We aim to reduce waste by retaining as much of the existing building structure as possible. For unavoidable waste, we will work with contractors to reuse or recycle materials wherever possible.
Biodiversity: We aim to enhance biodiversity on and around new developments, exploring features such as green roofs or native landscaping. Suppliers are encouraged to adopt similar practices under our [Ethical Purchasing Policy].
Operations:
Operating our hotels responsibly is central to our business strategy. We aim to deliver exceptional guest experiences while minimising our energy, water, and waste footprint.
Priority areas:
Energy and Water: Natural resources are used throughout our portfolio. We recognise their importance and aim to reduce consumption through efficient systems, effective management, and meaningful engagement with employees and guests.
Waste and recycling: All sites follow a structured waste management process, supported by training on separation into mixed recycling, glass, food waste, and general waste. Our goal is to reduce waste to landfill wherever possible through minimisation, reuse, and supplier partnerships.
Hazardous waste: Any hazardous waste is identified, recorded, and managed by qualified personnel and disposed of in accordance with all legal requirements.
Supply chain: Our supply chain contributes to our environmental footprint. We will prioritise suppliers who are taking steps to reduce their impact and will work with existing partners to encourage continuous improvement. We also aim to favour local sourcing where possible to reduce transportation emissions and support local economies.
Corporate Governance
We aim to maintain transparency regarding our environmental efforts and progress by sharing relevant information internally and externally. The highest level of responsibility for our environmental aims lies with our Managing Director.
